Sir William Lawrence Bt. OBE MA (Hons)
Conservative Councillor and Campaigner for Accessibility
Oil on canvas, 30″ x 36″, 2011
His great interest is in the world of tourism and he is currently Chairman of the
Heart of England Tourist Board. One of his particular interests is
accessibility. As a wheelchair user, he promotes the issue of welcoming visitors
and widened access provision throughout the leisure and tourism industry, with the goal of
helping everyone.
Health provision at both Warwick and Stratford hospitals is a priority and
involvement in the Arts is of great enjoyment, working with the Royal
Shakespeare Theatre, Orchestra of the Swan and, regionally, with the West
Midlands Cultural Consortium.
“When Tanya said that she would like to draw and paint me at
the Wolverhampton Art Gallery, I was amazingly honoured and, when she said that
a group of students were going to do the same, I was totally gob smacked. I
found it a very satisfying experience, one to be highly recommended; and it’s
good to know that Arts Council England are supporting disability art.”
